O'Connor Honored at Scranton

Former Penncrest Player Receives Willensky Award at Senior Student-Athlete Banquet

Media resident and Penncrest High School graduate Sean O’Connor was presented the Willensky Award at The University of Scranton’s 16th annual Senior Student-Athlete Banquet on Friday, May 11.

This award honors the senior student-athlete who consistently undertakes to understand and improve the human condition. It is named after Ron Willensky, a Scranton native and a 1963 graduate of the University who was a lifelong fan of the Royals and Lady Royals. O’Connor overcame the death of his parents, his father in an automobile accident and his mother to cancer, to become a four-year letterman and two-time team captain of the men’s lacrosse team.

O’Connor played in 60 career games and finished with 52 goals and 30 assists for 82 total points. He scored at least one goal in 38 games, including 11 multi-goal games. This past season, he tallied 13 goals and had three assists as the Royals won seven games and qualified for the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament for the first time since 2003 under first-year head coach Kevin Dugan.
