Haverford and Malvern to meet

Haverford 16, GA 5; Malvern 8, EA 6
 Haverford and Malvern moved one step closer to a much anticipated rubber match by winning their respective Inter-Ac Tournament semifinal contests yesterday at Cabrini College. In the first game of the inaugural tournament, the Fords dispached an overmatched Germantown Academy team 16-5 - a game the Patriots led in the early going. In the nightcap, a (finally) healthy Malvern squad overcame a two-goal halftime deficit and earned a hard fought victory over Episcopal Academy. Haverford and Malvern split their games this season and shared the Inter-Ac title with identical 6-2 records. The two Inter-Ac powers will square off for a final time on Wednesday, May 20th at Cabrini (7 pm). The championship game sets the stage for what promises to be a battle between the two top non-PIAA teams in the state.
For Haverford, Stephen Aitken, Joe O’Rourke, Zach Rego, Chris Hupfeldt and Will McNamara each scored two goals, while defender Stocky Euler and midfielder Liam O’Connor earned Toyota Stars of the Game honors. Will Horrocks added a goal and two assists for Haverford while Euler, Matt Walters, Tom Shihadeh, Brendan McGrath and Bill Annesley each scored once. Grove Stewart contributed two assists. Beau Jones (two goals) was the Toyota Star of the Game for the Patriots, who finished the year 6-12. Bobby Hill (midfield) and Wills Curley (goalie) earned Toyota Stars of the Game honors for the Friars (11-8), who advanced to the finals by topping the Churchmen (13-8). Matt Lerman (goaltender) was the Toyota Star of the Game for EA.
