The PLA's New Start Program provides technical and financial assistance to new lacrosse programs in our chapter area. New Start Program volunteers have worked diligently over the years to seed and cultivate youth, middle school and high school programs and the formation of leagues.

The number of boys and girls youth programs have grown dramatically since the first youth leagues were formed in the 1970s. At the high school level, the number of schools fielding varsity or club interscholastic teams has almost tripled just in the last decade, giving the region the distinction of being regarded as an emerging men's and women’s lacrosse hotbed.

The recent growth of the game at all levels represents, in part, the evolution of a process set in motion by the PLA, US Lacrosse and its predecessors - the USWLA and the Lacrosse Foundation. PLA has helped numerous programs over the years from the youth level through new high school programs. The PLA has also provided grant support to the Philadelphia School District in connection with its Middle School Lacrosse Initiative.
The New Start Program can provide information and other guidance, grant support and instant networking opportunities to anyone in our chapter territory interested in seeing lacrosse (whether boys or girls, youth, middle school or high school), develop in their area. To start the process, click here to download the New Start Grant Application Form; complete it and send it to Laurie Markle, New Start Chair: 2904 Pheasant Run Road, Audubon, PA 19403 or email the form to Newstart@palacrosse.com.

New programs should also explore obtaining new start equipment grants from US Lacrosse to help their programs get started. For more information, click here.
