Wings and Barrage in Philly

Both Pro Teams in Have Championship Banners; Catch the Action

While the "Major" Philadelphia sports franchises haven't won any titles of late, Philadelphia's two professional lacrosse franchises have each won recent league championships.

The Philadelphia Wings are traditionally one of the strongest teams of the indoor National Lacrosse League (NLL). Playing to nearly sell-out crowds at the Wachovia Center the Wings may be the most successful franchise in NLL history, and won 5 championships in the 1990s. The Wings season runs from January to April, make sure you catch a game down at the Wachovia Center.

The newest professional team in Philadelphia is the Barrage, part of the outdoor Major League Lacrosse (MLL). The Barrage moved to Philadelphia from Bridgeport prior to the 2004 season. It took the Barrage just months to bring the championship to Philly as they finished the regular season strong to make the playoffs. Then they rolled through the playoffs and won the title in their first year as the "Philadelphia" Barrage.

The Barrage play their homes games at Villanova stadium, and usually attract over 5,000 spectators per game, making for a very exciting atmosphere during their evening games duing the summer (usually Thursday night). Recently, the Barrage named Tony Resch as the team's head coach, giving the team more of a Philadelphia look. Tony coached the Wings and won many indoor box lacrosse titles with the team. He will try to replicate those feats as the new coach of the MLL's Philadelphia Barrage.
