2009 All-Main Line Girls Team

By Bruce Adams, Main Line Times (6/25/09) - Radnor, winning 25 of 26 games and the first-ever PIAA state girls’ lacrosse championship, headed a long list of outstanding high school girls lacrosse teams on the Main Line. Episcopal Academy once again captured the Inter-Ac championship, fighting off strong challenges from Academy of Notre Dame and Baldwin. In the perennially strong Central League, Radnor was not the only Main Line power — Conestoga and Harriton also enjoyed successful seasons. Merion Mercy Academy captured the AACA championship, edging out Villa Maria Academy in the league final. Archbishop Carroll once again was undefeated in the Catholic League, and advanced to the PIAA state quarterfinals. Shipley advanced to the Friends School League championship final, while Friends’ Central also was a contender for the league crown and made it to the league semifinal.

The All-Main Line girls’ lacrosse teams are selected by the coaches, who vote for their own players — and because Main Line Media News covers 21 area high schools, the coaches of every sport are limited as to the number of All-Main Line nominations they can make. While it’s possible, for example, that the fourth-best lacrosse player on one Main Line school’s team is better than the best player on another local school’s squad, one of the intentions of All-Main Line voting has been to give all of the Main Line schools recognition, relative to the strength of each team.
