Familiar foe awaits Quakers

Penn to face Boston University in NCAA Quarterfinals

By John Kopp, Inquirer Staff Writer - The women's NCAA lacrosse tournament is becoming familiar to the Penn Quakers, and not simply because a win today would place them in the final four for the second straight season. The second-seeded Quakers are set to square off against Boston University - the team the Quakers beat in the first round last season - in the quarterfinals at Drexel's Vidas Field. Not only that, but assuming the tournament's higher seeds continue to win, the Quakers also would face Maryland in the semifinals and Northwestern in the championship game. Last year, the Quakers bested Maryland in the quarterfinals before falling to Northwestern in the final four.

LaSalle Edges St. Joe's Prep

Wins 6-5 for Catholic League title; Wood downs Roman for 3rd place

By Chris Goldberg, Phillylacrosse.com, 5/15/08 - La Salle coach Bill Leahy was not surprised his Explorers needed to play their best game against St. Joseph’s Prep in tonight’s Catholic League boys’ championship game. “That’s what we expected, it’s a great rivalry,” said Leahy. “It’s a great rivalry in all the sports. When these teams play throw everything out the window. There’s a lot of emotion.” In front of a large crowd at Plymouth Whitemarsh, La Salle rallied for a 6-5 thriller over the stubborn Hawks, claiming its fifth straight league crown and 14th under Leahy in his 17 years at the helm.
